Research
Professor Shieh has been conducting fundamental and practical research in a broad range of topics in optical communications and photonics, including coherent optical OFDM, advanced optical modulation formats, space-division-multiplexing and polarization effects in optical fibers. His current research interests include:
(1) Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) techniques for both optical and wireless applications.
(2) Few-mode fiber based devices and transmission system.
(3) Long-range multi-parameter optical sensing; Coherent optical time domain reflectometry (COTDR).
(4) Optical integration for cost-effective optical communication and sensing systems.
(5) Artificial neural network (ANN) application in combating nonlinearity in optical channels.
(6) Coherent optical communications, optical signal processing and equalization
(7) All-optical packet switching, wavelength conversion and novel optical network architecture.
(8) RF photonics involving RF signal generation, characterization, transmission and processing.
