Biography
Graduated from the National University of Colombia (School of Physics) in 2003 (2006) with a bachelor's (master's) degree; in 2010, received a PhD in computational physics from the National University of Colombia. Then he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Queensland, Australia. He has been a senior researcher and lecturer in applied mathematics at the University of Queensland from 2015 to 2017. In 2016, he was awarded the Advance Queensland Fellowship by the Queensland Government of Australia, the only fellowship granted in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering for that year. In 2017, he joined the University of Liverpool as a Senior Lecturer and as an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Queensland. Starting in early 2019, he will join Westlake as an Associate Professor in Geomechanics.

Research
His research deals with the multi-scale analysis of complex processes found in disciplines such as Civil, Mining and Environmental Engineering. Its focus is to find the connection between the physics that happens at the microscale (interactions between soil grains, water droplets, air and gas bubbles) and the field scale behaviour. To achieve this goal, experiments, numerical simulations (using techniques such as computational fluid dynamics) and theoretical developments, coming from statistical physics are combined, to gain further understanding and predictability of these challenging problems. Dr. Galindo Torres research has created an impact beyond the academy, by working in research projects with industry partners such as Golder Associates Ltd and Newcrest Mining Ltd.
