"Be unique, be creative, like Westlake University. "
Biography
BING GU was born in Jiangsu, China. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemical physics with honor from the University of Science and Technology of China and Ph.D in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, USA. After a two-year postdoctoral research period in Ignacio Franco’s group at the University of Rochester, he moved to the University of California, Irvine, to work with Prof. Shaul Mukamel on ultrafast spectroscopy and molecular polaritons. He joins Westlake University in 2023.
Research
The Gu group mainly conducts theoretical research on nonlinear ultrafast spectroscopy, excited state molecular dynamics, and molecular polaritons. It includes
• The design and simulation of novel spectroscopy with quantum light sources: how to use quantum light to enhance the resolution of the spectrum?
• the dynamics of open quantum systems: how to understand the influence of the environment on quantum systems?
• photochemistry in optical microcavities and laser control of the physicochemical properties of materials: how to use optical microcavities and lasers to manipulate the physical and chemical properties of molecules and materials?
We are looking for talented Ph.D., postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants to join us!
