Biography
Dr. Song received her Ph.D. (2014) from China Agricultural University and the National Institute of Biological Sciences (NIBS). Then, she finished her postdoctoral training (2015-2019) at the RNA Therapeutics Institute at UMass Medical School. In Oct 2019, Dr. Song joined Westlake University as an assistant professor.
Research
Song lab mainly focuses on studying the mechanism of liver-related diseases (i.e., liver cancer and tissue regeneration) and improving CRISPR strategies for genetic disease correction and live cell DNA imaging.
We have developed a CRISPR FISHer live imaging system that enables high-sensitivity imaging of nonrepetitive DNA in living cells through phase separation-mediated signal amplification (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41422-022-00712-z).
In addition, Dr. Song has identified MAPK regulators as crucial tumor suppressors in the liver using a genome-wide CRISPR screen; Dr. Song helped improve the understanding of CRISPR engineering. (1) Chemically modified guide RNA improved genome editing and reduced off-target activity in vitro and in vivo; (2) Adenine base editing (ABE) was applied to an adult mouse model of tyrosinemia.
